Our projects - 2008 Thanks to our ever growing network of donors and supporters, 60 million girls has doubled its yearly fundraising objective to $200,000 for 2008. This funding will enable us to support two extraordinary projects: community schools for girls in Afghanistan and another project supporting girls in the refugee camps of Dadaab and Kakuma in Kenya. Gender Equality in Afghanistan Education - Establishing and Supporting Safe Community-Based Schools for Girls May 2010 - Update September 2009 - Update
Our foundation's funding of $100,000 for this project will ensure that 1,300 girls will be able to go to school through the establishment and support of 37 community-based schools and the training of 80 female teachers in child-centered and gender-sensitive new curriculum. With this focus on training female teachers in Afghanistan and getting girls in school, the Foundation is helping to spearhead the educational future of a whole generation. The focus will be on providing access to education for girls who live in the 8 provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Badakhshan, Kunduz, Baghlan, Saripur, Logar and Kabul. These provinces are free from any Taliban-led insecurity. The popular belief that Afghans have cultural constraints against educating girls is a myth. Increasing the educational attainment for refugee girls April 2009 - Update
The 60 million girls foundation is supporting this year an educational project located in the refugee camps of Dadaab and Kakuma. These camps are home to thousands of women, men, girls and boys from Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Uganda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo who have been displaced due to years of conflict and war.
